Guidance- Businesses reminded to pre-register chemicals
From that date legislation enforcing the registration, evaluation, authorisation and restriction of chemicals (REACH) will be enforced, and companies will need to register chemicals that they either manufacture or import.
DEFRA is urging businesses to pre-register before the legislation comes into force, which could mean that they will not have to fully register until 2018. It will also be cheaper for companies to register if they do so during the pre-registration period.
Environment minister Huw Irranca-Davies said: “Businesses must find out whether REACH will affect them, as [there is little over a week] left before the end of the pre-registration period and the start of enforcement.
“Even if you don’t think REACH applies to your business, check to make sure of that – many businesses rely on chemicals without realising it, and missing the pre-registration deadline will not help your business meet legal requirements.”
Guidance- Businesses reminded to pre-register chemicals
The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) has warned all businesses that they must register their use of chemicals before 1 December, or they will be banned from importing or manufacturing them.
