Two directors of family haulage firm, AJ Haulage, were recently handed a prison sentence following a fatal crash involving one of their drivers, who, it was proved, was driving while fatigued and fell asleep at the wheel.
The directors were charged with manslaughter by gross negligence. Fleet21 suggests that sooner or later there could be a corporate manslaughter prosecution relating to the failure of an employer to meet their health and safety duties in respect of business drivers.
