Compliance check on rig-guarding rules
The Association of Specialist Underpinning Contractors (ASUCplus) has insisted on a declaration of compliance from its members to ensure they are compliant with rules relating to the guarding of rigs under the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998.
ASUCplus has implemented the policy to ensure that all member contractors are fully aware of the Regulations and are adhering to them on their sites. Any members not complying will also be in breach of the Association’s byelaws.
ASUCplus suggests that companies choosing an underpinning contractor should check if the contractor:
- is protecting its workforce by fully complying with the PUWER, in relation to the guarding of rigs?
- has operatives who are fully trained in safe practice?
- complies with the CDM regulations?
- is a member of a professional, regulated trade body? and
- can offer a meaningful guarantee?
