Dr Janet Asherson, head of health and safety at the CBI, told delegates that health and safety practitioners would always have a future in advising business and industry.
“We potentially have an approved code of practice on director’s duties coming to make sure directors know exactly what they have to do on health and safety. But the ultimate threat to business is corporate manslaughter.
“This will make sure the board has safety on its agenda and is receiving competent advice. You all have secure jobs because the threat from corporate manslaughter will ensure you will always have a place to advise your firms on how to do it right.” But Dr Asherson warned: “Things have to be kept real, though, by people like you.”
