Training roadshow- Pitch perfection
As a health and safety expert and specialist trainer, do you know what makes a training buyer tick? Or how a delegate thinks? At this year’s training roadshow we’ll be asking you to ‘put yourself in someone else’s shoes’.
We’ll look at training from two different perspectives. You’ll find out the best way to convince clients to invest in training, and pick up new techniques to help you understand how delegates learn — and how to deliver more powerful training as a result.
IOSH’s commercial affairs director Caroline Holden and marketing manager Tracey Wright will take you through the training buyer’s ‘decision-making moment’. Imagine you’re sat in front of a buyer. What are you going to say to them, to get them to commit to buying IOSH training from you? This interactive session allows you to test out your own ‘pitch’ techniques.
Tracey commented: “Quite often we’re asked by trainers attending the roadshows if we can do a session on sales and marketing. Some trainers openly say to us that first and foremost they’re health and safety professional’s, trainer’s second and sales people third. Understandably trainers want to find out why they miss out on potential new business and how to hone their selling skills.”
Guest speaker
This year’s guest speaker is a regular guest on BBC local radio around the UK and has appeared on Amazing People, The Big Breakfast and The Guinness Show. Michael Tipper is a professional trainer, author, consultant and Grand Master of Memory who picked up a medal at the 1998 World Memory Championship.
Michael believes there are seven key principles to powerful training – he’ll be sharing his insights over three sessions. Michael will focus on the power of belief, how important it is to focus on key learning points rather than going for coverage overkill, and maximising what people remember.
He says: “So many people have a fear of failure that it can have a negative impact on effective learning and training — the good news is there’s something you can do about it. People also think they have a problem with their memory; and I’m always delighted to tell them that they probably don’t. The only thing that’s wrong is that they don’t know how to use it because I doubt whether anyone ever taught them.”
