Things to see and do . . .

If you’re thinking of staying in the Telford area before or after IOSH 07, or somehow manage to find a few spare hours during the conference, here are a few suggestions of activities and places you might like to visit.

– Ironbridge Gorge Museums, Iron Bridge and the Toll House — Based in Coalbrookdale, Telford’s most famous symbol is a World Heritage Site. Built across the River Severn in 1789, it is the world’s first iron bridge. The Ironbridge Gorge Museums include the Coalport China Museum, where you can see some of the world’s finest, locally produced porcelain, the Blists Hill Victorian Town, where you can step back to the 1800s, and Enginuity, where the workings of 21st century objects are revealed.

– The Place — A new multi-million pound entertainment, arts and learning centre in Telford town centre. If it’s a show or some entertainment you’re looking for, then the Oakengates Theatre is a good place to go.

– Lilleshall Abbey — remains of a 12th and 13th century monastery.

– RAF Museum Cosford — Home to one of the largest collections of aviation history in the UK, it also contains a flight simulator. A new building, housing the National Cold War Exhibition, opened in February.

– Telford Ice Rink — For those with energy to burn, why not have a go at ice skating. If you’re around at the weekend, you could also watch the Telford Tigers Ice Hockey Team.
