IOSH benefits- Get the most from your membership

IOSH membership is about more than just the letters after your name, a certificate and a copy of SHP each month. There’s lots more you ought to be benefiting from!

Whether you’re a new recruit, or a seasoned pro, your membership is about helping you develop your knowledge and skills, find new business contacts, and to introduce opportunities for professional and personal development.

The new IOSH website provides many opportunities to keep up to date, whether it’s through logging into MyIOSH and MyCPD, finding free information and guides, networking with colleagues, or gaining urgently needed advice through our popular discussion forums www.iosh.co.uk/discussion

If you go to www.iosh.co.uk/technical you’ll find our regularly updated technical information section. This contains a number of free information sheets and guidance, and links to IOSH-produced resources, such as the risk management toolkit and occupational health toolkit. Your local branch, or group network, also offers plenty of interesting opportunities for development. You’re immediately assigned a branch on joining, and can join your first group free of charge. These give you access to nearly 500 free or low-cost meetings, seminars, conferences and networking events each year.

Not only do such events provide you with the opportunity to make new business contacts but they are an inexpensive way to update your knowledge, gain career advice, or to explore a specific professional interest in more detail. Visit www.iosh.co.uk/networks for more information on branch or group activities in your area. As an IOSH member, you also get discounts on many of IOSH’s larger events, including the IOSH Conference and Exhibition, and events run by partner organisations, such as the Hazards Symposium. Find out more at www.iosh.co.uk/events

You also benefit from reduced rates on many of our Continuing Professional Development courses, which give you an excellent way of maintaining and developing your health and safety knowledge. Visit www.iosh.co.uk/training for more information. But that’s not all. Mentoring opportunities, a free technical information line, a free legal helpline, career counselling, and IOSH’s free e-newsletter, Connect, containing the latest health and safety industry and IOSH news, are all included with your membership fee.

And if you hit on hard times, you’ve also got access to the IOSH Benevolent Fund, which was set up to support members of five years’ standing who are out of work, or suffering long-term illness. You can write to us and ask for financial support.

It’s up to you to make the most of your membership benefits! Call 0116 257 3198 if you’d like to know how you can make use of any of the services, or to suggest any other services you think IOSH should be offering.
