IOSH 10- Have a brush with the law at IOSH 10
If you want to brush up on the latest legal developments affecting the health and safety world the IOSH 10 Conference will be the place to be in March.
This year’s conference, which takes place at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre in Glasgow from 24-25 March, has sessions from some of the biggest legal names in health and safety — all of whom will provide updates on what you need to do to keep your organisation out of the courts. Conference chair, the news broadcaster Gavin Esler, will be on hand to put questions to a panel of four legal eagles as ‘In Court: Live’ returns to IOSH 10. He’ll be quizzing: Gerard Forlin, 2-3 Gray’s Inn Square; Steffan Groch, DWF;Hilary Ross, Bond Pearce; and Kevin Bridges, Pinsent Masons.
There will also be a special workshop session to help you develop the skills you need should you find yourself in the dock.
Led by Laura Cameron and Tom Stocker, from McGrigors, the session will provide an insight into the criminal prosecution system and the conduct of a trial, and offer tips on giving evidence in court.
You will also be able to find out the latest thinking on the impact of the Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act, as well as hear from Adam Wilson, from CDM Resources, about why contract law has a big role to play in self-regulating and improving health and safety in the construction industry.
The conference kicks off on 24 March with a keynote address from James Clappison MP, the shadow minister for work and pensions. He’ll be setting out what a future Conservative government would do to improve health and safety in the UK. Day two starts with a keynote session from Geoffrey Podger, the chief executive of the HSE on implementing its new strategy. IOSH chief executive Rob Strange OBE will also explain what IOSH’s key goals and objectives are for the next year.
Parallel tracks on legal and regulatory compliance, making business sense, safer working environments, and thinking ahead over both conference days will help you tailor your conference experience to your needs. Among the parallel track speakers confirmed are:
Tim Roberts, Glastonbury Festival;
Martin ‘Nobby’ Clark, Balfour Beatty Plant and Fleet Services;
Paul Mrozowski, Telefonica O2;
Alan Barlow, Natural History Museum;
Judith Hackitt CBE, HSE; and
Alison Reid-Wright, Ofcom.
The evening reception at the Glasgow Science Centre on 24 March is your opportunity to make new business contacts in a relaxed setting. In truth, though, the whole conference is just one big networking opportunity, with fellow professionals from across the world all in one place, helping make contact-building easy.
The free 100+ stand exhibition will feature a host of top-name and industry leading exhibitors. IOSH’s stand, of course, will be at the heart of it all, and you can get CPD queries answered, find out about training courses or technical guidance, and hear about latest IOSH campaigning initiatives. There will also be a range of sessions available in the spotlight presentation theatres — again, free of charge.
