Commercial/research committees- Drive the profession forward

Two of IOSH’s committees are seeking new chairmen to help us continue driving the profession forward.

We’re recruiting chairmen for the Commercial and Research committees, both of which are key roles in helping to create IOSH’s vision of a world of work that is safe, healthy and sustainable.

For the Commercial Committee role, you should have experience of developing and influencing commercial business strategies, principally within the area of employee health and safety awareness training. You’ll be expected to contribute to IOSH’s commercial strategy and help build on the success of our commercial ventures.

Becoming chairman of the Research Committee will require you to oversee the implementation of research strategies that support IOSH’s vision of becoming the thought-leader in occupational safety and health. You should have experience of evaluating research proposals, commissioning research projects, or undertaking academic or professional research in occupational safety and health.

For the Commercial Committee role you’ll be expected to come to around four committee meetings each year, and for the Research Committee you’ll need to attend two committee meetings per year. In both roles, you will be expected to attend Council meetings.

Both vacancies are open to chartered fellows and chartered members who possess significant experience of chairing meetings. The closing date for applications is 21 May 2009 and interviews will be held by the Nominations Committee on 1 and 9 June. Both roles are voluntary, although reasonable expenses will be paid.

If you think you have the skills and experience to take on one of these positions and would like to play a significant role in supporting your professional body, please contact Laura Miles, governance recruitment coordinator, at [email protected] or on 0116 257 3190, for more details and an application form.

Later this year the Nominations Committee will also be inviting applications for other key corporate governance positions, so keep a look out!
