IOSH’s bid to make company directors and HR managers more aware of the value of competent health and safety advice got underway last month.
The ‘Get the Best’ advertising campaign aims to hit home how recruiting the best health and safety person for the job can have direct impact on the workforce. The adverts appeared in Director, People Management, Business Voice, Real Business, a health and safety supplement distributed at the Safety & Health Expo and in The Guardian.
Posing the question ‘Will she/he go home from work today?’ the three different adverts tell the story of three young workers, full of hope and optimism for the future, but whose lives could be endangered if their employer makes bad decisions on health and safety issues.
Ruth Doyle, director of communications at IOSH, said: “The campaign aims to make directors and managers recognise their responsibility for health and safety, and the need to get the best advice from competent health and safety advisers.
“Our advertising aims to make them stop and think about health and safety before they make potentially life-threatening decisions. Our characters, Laura, Matt and Eleni, all have so much to live for — but the question is whether their employer sees the possible consequences of getting bad advice.
“After seeing our advert, we hope they’ll think about the workers in their workplace — and make the link that they are people too who also want to go home safe and healthy at the end of the day.”
The ‘Count me in’ gallery will soon be live on the Get the Best campaign microsite. This is your chance to show your commitment to being the best health and safety professional you can be.
All you need to do is register your details on the microsite, answer a few questions about how you’re committed to being the best in your profession and upload a picture and there you’ll be in the gallery for all the world to see!
