Family of five exposed to lethal gas
A gas engineer has been prosecuted for carrying out safety checks on a warm-air heater at a house in Staffordshire, despite not being qualified to do the work.
A household of five was taken ill on 22 January last year after being exposed to carbon monoxide, which was leaking from the heater in their home. The two adults and three children, aged two, nine, and 11, all suffered from vomiting and severe headaches, but the adults also lost consciousness and collapsed. A housekeeper also became ill and all six of them were taken to hospital to receive treatment.€
