HSE to prosecute NHS Trust over teen’s death

An NHS trust is to be prosecuted by the Health and Safety Executive over the death of an Oxford teenager under its care in 2013.

Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust eventually took responsibility for the death of Connor Sparrowhawk at its Slade House unit after the 18-year-old drowned in a bath following an epileptic fit.

It is in the process of winding up its operations in Oxfordshire and Slade House is likely to be gifted to the local NHS trust, Oxford Health.

The HSE has now confirmed it will prosecute the trust under Section 3 of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, following an investigation into the death.

No court date has yet been set.
