British Safety Council joins forces with United Arab Emirates schools

The British Safety Council has agreed to share its expertise on health and safety with schools in the United Arab Emirates.

The Council recently signed a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Education of the United Arab Emirates, which is planning to update the national curriculum including health, safety and environmental management information.

As part of the agreement, the Council will work with various education bodies in the country to help deliver the new national curriculum.

“This relationship is an expression of the United Arab Emirates Ministry of Education’s confidence in our health, safety and environmental management expertise, which we share internationally,” said Council chief executive, Mike Robinson (pictured).

“Since 1957, the British Safety Council has been campaigning to keep workers healthy and safe, contributing to the creation of ground-breaking legislation that made workplaces healthier and safer.

Helping future generations

“We hope that by working closely with the Ministry of Education and other academic bodies in the United Arab Emirates, we will play an important role in helping future generations gain an understanding of the benefits of the effective management of health, safety and environmental risks for society and businesses,” added Mr Robinson.

The undersecretary for inspection and support services at the Ministry of Education, Abdul Rahman Al Hammadi, commented: “The memorandum of understanding is a foundation for our future plans to develop tailored qualifications for the education sector that meet our needs and our expectations.

“We would also wish to ensure that the EHS Directorate of the Ministry of Education participates successfully in the British Safety Council’s annual Five Star Occupational Health and Safety audit and international awards. We also look forward to working together with the British Safety Council on developing joint seminars, conferences and campaigns to raise awareness of the importance of health and safety culture.”
