Block of flats evacuated after fire safety fears
A tower block in Stockton was evacuated on 5 September after fire safety concerns.
This followed a safety inspection which found that smoke could not be safely extracted from emergency exits if a fire was to occur.
The 15-storey building houses 87 residents.
The housing association for the tower, Thirteen, said they will carry out ‘essential work’ on the building, as residents are temporarily homed elsewhere.
In the same week, 70 firefighters tackled a blaze at a residential tower block in Catford, South London. There were no reported injuries, and the cause of the fire is not yet known.
This occurred the same day Grenfell’s Phase 2 report was released, criticising fire safety failures, amongst others, leading up to the fire.
Last month, tower block fires in Dagenham and Tower Hamlets raised further concerns for residential building safety.
