New comms vehicles for major emergencies rolled out
Fire minister Parmjit Dhanda has handed over the first of nine coordination and communications vehicles for use in major emergencies by England’s Fire and Rescue Service.
The Enhanced Command Support vehicles will be strategically located around England, and mobilised in the event of regional or national-scale emergencies, when some 300 specialist appliances could need coordinating.
Communications systems on board the vehicles include satellite phones; UHF, VHF, marine-band, and secure digital radio systems; mobile phone networks; and computers and Wifi Internet-access laptops capable of displaying data from multiple applications.
The vehicles form part of the Government’s investment in New Dimension specialist equipment.
