Safety & Health Expo, Europe’s largest annual health and safety event, returns to the NEC Birmingham from 12-14 May 2009.
Safety & Health Expo 2009 provides the opportunity for visitors to meet more than 300 product and service specialists, network with thousands of leading industry figures, and enjoy and learn from a whole host of innovative feature areas.
Hosted in partnership with The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA), the British Safety Industry Federation (BSIF), and the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) Safety & Health Expo 2009 is co-located with Fire & Rescue, International Firex, IFSEC — the world’s leading annual security event, and The Facilities Show.
The exhibition
Among the hundreds of industry-renowned companies exhibiting at this year’s event are Capital Safety, Draeger Safety UK, Goliath Footwear, JSP, Moldex, MSA, Polyco, Scott Health and Safety, and 3M UK. If you can’t find the products you’re looking for — be they boots, gloves, respiratory masks, workwear, fall arrest, helmets, etc. — then you’re not looking hard enough!
Service providers, too, will be on hand to give advice on such issues as training, occupational health, first aid, risk assessment, consultancy, career advancement, and behavioural safety. Just some of the names to seek out in this respect are Barbour, Connaught, the HSE, Key Consultancy, IOSH, Norwich Union, RRC and Sypol.
SHP Arena
The SHP Arena will be home to three days of high-level presentations delivered by internationally-renowned professionals in the health and safety field. Among the topics for discussion are absence management, influencing the supply chain, inspection and enforcement, stress, asbestos surveying, directors’ duties, CDM, hand-arm vibration, and coping in the credit crunch. New in 2009 is the Product and Innovation Hub, where the most innovative and original products and services available in the industry today will be on display. Hear more from the manufacturers, distributors and suppliers of these products via the educational seminars also taking place in The Hub.

On the BSIF stand this year a dedicated team will be on hand to answer any queries, provide advice, and direct visitors to exhibitors and content available throughout the event.
RoSPA Congress
On Wednesday, 13 May RoSPA’s Occupational Safety and Health at Work Congress will offer a unique opportunity to delegates to network with leading experts and gain insights into how to raise standards and enhance competitiveness. On the following day, RoSPA’s Practical Transport Solutions programme will offer a series of practical guides highlighting how to implement and apply a series of core safety tools, transferable to the management of occupational safety, both on the road and on site.
Working at Height Seminar Theatre
Following a successful launch last year, the Working at Height Seminar Theatre will again be a prominent feature at this year’s event. Programme highlights include: Managing mobile elevating work platforms safely — hosted by IPAF; Giant steps forward in best practice for ladders — hosted by the Ladder Association; Shattered Lives€ᆭthe campaign continues — hosted by the HSE; New guidance on collective protection for scaffolding — hosted by NASC; and Who’s afraid of falling? The development of fall prevention in access towers — hosted by PASMA.
Access Live
Professional actors from Dramanon will perform a range of scenarios designed to reinforce the Health and Safety Executive’s ongoing ‘Shattered Lives’ campaign. Using mobile elevating work platforms, scaffolding, mobile access towers and ladders, the Access Industry Forum will take as its theme ‘Act now before it’s too late’ and issue a call to action to combat the risk of injury or death posed by work at height.
Access Industry Village
In the Village clear and practical advice will be provided by members of the Access Industry Forum, including: the International Powered Access Federation (IPAF), National Access and Scaffolding Confederation (NASC), Prefabricated Access Suppliers’ and Manufacturers’ Association (PASMA), and the Ladder Association.
Hazardous substances seminars
New to 2009, DENIOS will give a lively and informative presentation using graphic demonstrations to highlight the consequences of handling flammable materials incorrectly.
