World Cup worker dies in fall from height

A Brazilian construction worker died after falling 25ft at the Sao Paolo World Cup stadium on 29 March.

Fabio Hamilton da Cruz had been working on installing seats on the south side of the Sao Paulo Arena when he fell.

He suffered fatal injuries and was taken to hospital, but later died.

His death is the third fatality at the new stadium, after two workers were killed when a crane collapsed in November last year.

Jerome Valcke, head of Fifa, said on Twitter: “Deeply saddened by the tragic loss of a worker at Arena Sao Paulo today. My thoughts and condolences are with his family and colleagues.”

The World Cup is due to start on 12 June.
