Training – Arco Confined Space Entry Mobile Training Unit

Confined-spaces working is common in high-risk industries such as oil and gas, petrochemical, utilities, shipping and marine, manufacturing and tank cleaning. In response, Arco is offering what it describes as a state-of-the-art Confined Space Entry Mobile Training Unit, which it says, enables both theoretical and practical training in confined-space entry and exit, as well as face-fit and breathing-apparatus training, to take place at any location, enabling a rapid set-up, minimal disruption and cost savings.

Arco adds that the unit incorporates the latest technologies throughout to simulate different industrial confined-space scenarios in a safe environment. The facility enables trainees to be immersed in a highly realistic learning experience, including variable light levels, noise programmes and smoke, plus configurable room layouts over two floors. Real-time monitoring and videoing also allows for continual monitoring of activity, live instruction from the trainer and observer learning outside the tunnels system, the company points out.

Practical training is said to cover vertical and horizontal entry, suitability checks (i.e. for claustrophobia), selection and use of equipment, developing a safe working system and the initiation of self-rescue or full rescue. Simulation exercises give trainees the necessary skills and confidence needed to work in confined space environments, says Arco. The company can provide all levels of City and Guilds-accredited confined-space training courses using the mobile training unit.
