Accident reports on major historical chemical incidents are to made available for free download on the website of the Institution of Chemical Engineers.
Out-of-print HSE reports on such disasters as the Grangemouth BP oil refinery (pictured) fires and explosion (1987), the explosion and fires at the Texaco refinery in Milford Haven (1994), and the Abbeystead explosion (1994) will be posted on www.icheme.org, with the service being officially launched at the Institution’s Hazards XXI conference in Manchester in November.
Robin Turney, chair of IChemE’s Loss Prevention Panel, said the reports contain information that remains pertinent to the modern day: “These papers will make authoritative information readily available to all. They are examples of high-quality, detailed investigations carried out by a professional organisation.”€
