Revised NEBOSH diplomas emphasise leadership and soft skills

Revised syllabuses for the National and International NEBOSH diplomas place a greater emphasis on leadership and soft skills, the national examination board has announced.

The revisions to the diplomas are also designed to re-emphasise a proportionate and sensible approach to risk management, and to include more opportunities to apply knowledge to real workplace situations.

NEBOSH consulted over 1,400 employers, safety practitioners, professional bodies, the Health and Safety Executive, trade unions and NEBOSH-accredited course providers and used the feedback to help shape the content of both the National and International Diplomas’ syllabuses.

NEBOSH‘s director of strategy, Barry Wilkes, explained why the changes had been made: “To ensure that we continue to offer the gold standard in health and safety qualifications, we regularly review and revise our syllabuses to maintain their relevance.

“In this instance, we undertook our largest every consultation exercise to ensure that our flagship degree level qualifications continue to provide the knowledge and understanding required by health and safety practitioners in the modern workplace.”

Both syllubses have been awarded a seal of approval in the form of the Plain English Campaign’s Book Mark, in recognition of the clear layout, design and use of appropriate language.

The revised syllabuses are now being delivered by accredited course providers.

The content revisions to both Diplomas, which are currently held by over 17,000 health and safety professionals around the world, mean that they are aligned wherever possible to ensure equivalence between the two qualifications.

More information on the revisions to the National and International NEBOSH Diplomas can be found on the NEBOSH website.
