Business Driver Report 2013

Business driver safety has now been an established part of forward thinking organisations’ risk management strategy for many years. But for a large number of other organisations, especially smaller SMEs, there is often still uncertainty as to what is required, with the result that some do nothing at all.

Talking to various organisations over the past 12 months, Fleet21 has noticed an increased desire to understand more clearly what others are doing.

  • What actions are regarded as the minimum necessary for compliance under Health and Safety at Work legislation?
  • What is regarded as best practice?
  • What do other organisations do?
  • And what concerns do other organisations hold about the future.

These concerns seem to stem from three things in particular. Firstly, the adverse economic conditions of the last few years have heaped further pressure on already stretched budgets meaning that many of those responsible for driver safety have less to spend.

Secondly, senior managers and directors are showing a greater awareness of the potential risks both to the organisation, and to them personally, and this is leading to a greater willingness to engage with driver safety and compliance issues. This, in turn, means the spotlight is falling more steadily on the performance of driver risk managers.

Finally, the increase in awareness of grey fl eet compliance issues has led many organizations to pay much more attention to their risk exposure and compliance options in this area.

The Fleet21 Business Driver Survey 2013 brings together the thoughts and practices of over 700 employers from SMEs to household names and some of the largest organisations in both the private and public sector.
