A major injury rate of 113.5 per 100,000 workers decreasing to 99 is a 12.8% fall
Fatality rate decreasing from 0.8 to 0.5 is a 37.5% reduction which is much larger.
Most organisation in UK PLC are small and non-complex and should rightly focus initially on the potential for fatalities – putting systems in place to prevent these, followed by potential for major injuries etc. As the H&S system matures lower risks and unsafe behaviours can be targeted.
