“Clarion Response is the repairs and maintenance arm of the Clarion Housing Group, and we work 24/7 to support our customers. With a fleet of 500 vans and a team that completes 1,000 jobs a day, keeping everyone safe on the roads is a huge task. However, being part of RoSPA Awards provides peer-to-peer review and opportunities for reflection that help my team and I rise to the challenge.
“The RoSPA Awards promotes a culture of dialogue and continuous improvement. At Clarion Response we have incorporated this ethos into our day-to-day practices by regularly reviewing risk assessments and guidance related to fleet safety. This is followed up by a consultation with staff about how to adopt any new advice. Taking a consultative approach has meant we have been able to secure the buy-in of staff which is vital for success.
“We don’t just talk about health and safety, we put our money where our mouth is and invest. Recently we have provided new vans to a section of the business, which have allowed the team to do their work more efficiently and safely. The rest of the fleet will be replaced by the new vehicles in a phased approach. I am pleased to say, partially as a result of this investment we have since had a reduction in traffic accidents.
“For the company as a whole it is an immense source of pride that we have achieved a Gold Award for eight consecutive years. This consistency however, has not bred any complacency – we continue to be highly motivated to improve and to ensure that this standard is maintained.
“And for me, entering into the RoSPA Awards has been hugely important personally, because completing the submission has formed part of my professional development plan.”
