Scottish builders score health and safety award hat-trick

Mactaggart and Mickel Homes has achieved three “commended site” awards in the first stage of the 2018 NHBC Health & Safety Awards.

The family-owned building firm in Scotland has confirmed that Site Managers Garry Henderson at Milverton Grange in Giffnock, Stuart Gillespie at Greenan Views at Doonfoot, Ayr, and Paul Starritt, Site Manager for Mactaggart & Mickel Contracts’ joint venture with West of Scotland Housing Association at Symington in Ayrshire, have all been recognised for demonstrating “an outstanding level of health and safety management”.

The three site managers all produced three of the top-scoring sites in the “medium house builder” category, based on multiple inspection visits carried out by NHBC health and safety advisors in recent months.

The NHBC Health and Safety Awards are open to all NHBC registered builders and the Commended Sites shortlist forms the first stage of a three-round journey towards the National Site Manager of the Year awards.

After this first round, highly commended sites are chosen in each category before being further reviewed by an independent judging panel to produce four national award runners-up, as well as four national winners from each category.

Last year, Stuart Gillespie won the national runner-up in the medium house builder category at the final stage.

“We’re very proud of the extremely high health and safety standards we achieve across all our sites and it is wonderful to have three site managers recognised for their hard work and dedication in this regard,” said company director, Marion Forbes.

“Congratulations to Paul, Garry and Stuart who have all maintained the highest possible health and safety standards on our construction sites, ensuring that the quality of our homes is matched by our approach to safety for our staff, partners and visitors.”
