Two inspiring individuals have been awarded a NEBOSH Honorary Diploma for their outstanding contribution to the health, safety, and environmental (HSE) industry
Dr Waddah S Ghanem Al Hashmi and Roger Schulp were honoured at September’s NEBOSH Graduation Ceremony in the UK. Both recipients have spent many years advancing the profession, and share NEBOSH’s commitment to learning for the prevention of workplace injury and illness.
Roger Schulp was a member of the Armed Forces until 1995. Having qualified as a Barrister, Roger has spent the following decades as a Regulator with the Health and Safety Executive and a health and safety professional consulting to global organisations. Roger is a leading voice in incident investigation and was recruited by bp to form the post-Deepwater Horizon investigation team. He is dedicated to understanding human behaviour, psychological safety, HoP learning teams and how trauma-informed interviewing significantly enhances the ability to learn and prevent future incidents.
Roger said of his achievement: “I am honoured and proud to receive this prestigious award from NEBOSH. This recognition fuels my desire to make a difference and drive improvements in learning from incidents, ensuring a safer workplace where everyone goes home safely.”
Dr Waddah S Ghanem Al Hashmi is a prominent figure in the Middle East energy industry. He advocates for senior management to take an active health and safety leadership role. Amongst many distinguished positions, Dr Waddah is Fellow and Chair of the UAE Chapter’s Advisory Board of the Board of Directors Institute – GCC, Chairman of the Platform for Connected Leadership, Chartered Fellow Director with the Institute of Directors in the UK, as well as Fellow and Honorary Chair for the Energy Institute — Middle East. He is also a Fellow of several other institutions including the IChemE, IIRSM and IEMA. He also shares his expertise for the education of others, publishing a range of books, journals and academic papers, including working with Harvard Business Review Arabia on the Connected Leadership Framework and other publications.
