Concerns about lone workers are on the increase. Every day we see yet more statistics showing that aggressive and violent incidents directed towards lone workers are escalating. For many organisations the decision on how to improve the safety of their lone workers is a crucial one that cannot be undertaken lightly. Currently there are no specific legal requirements on employers in relation to lone working, however the duty to maintain safe working arrangements under the 1974 Health and Safety at Work Act does apply.
The Health and Safety Executive currently estimate that it can cost £20,000 just to investigate a serious workplace incident, putting further pressure on organisations to ensure that their health and safety procedures are robust.
