SHE 2013 – Dräger Safety UK

Dräger Safety UK demonstrated the Dräger DrugTest 5000, along with a range of other diagnostic equipment and solutions including the Dräger Alcotest 6820 and the Dräger Interlock XT, to support businesses and to enable them to have drug and alcohol policies in place to protect themselves.

Visitors to the stand were offered the opportunity to take part in a driving simulator while wearing impairment goggles that mimic the effects of drugs and alcohol.

According to the company, this year the Dräger DrugTest 5000 became the first and only drug detection kit to be used by Police forces across the UK to detect cannabis. It is also said to be able to test for a range of other drugs in the workplace, including cocaine, opiates, amphetamines, drugs in the ecstasy group, as well as unknown ones, as it recognises “family resemblances” in substances.

Steve Wilkinson, account manager (law enforcement) from Dräger Safety UK, said: “With drug-driving legislation soon to become a reality, the issue of workplace drug and alcohol testing is emerging as a hot topic for employers, and many are considering the options available to them.”
