Safety first and foremost

Foremost Security Ltd has put its trust in Geonovo Ltd to provide protection for its security guards.

The Nottingham-based security contractor, which employs 120 people, has issued Romad RSP-100 lone-worker protection devices, manufactured by Geonovo Ltd, to its stationed security guards.

“The safety of our colleagues is, of course, of paramount importance,” said Des Oldham, office manager for Foremost Security Ltd. “Until recently, we had a procedure in place whereby one of our controllers would have to make contact with all our on-duty security guards on an hourly basis to check that they were okay and that no incidents had occurred which had put them at risk.

“This was a time-consuming and costly process and it wasn’t an ideal way to ensure that we knew if an incident had occurred. Theoretically, we might not know for almost an hour that one of our colleagues was in trouble and that was not acceptable to us.”

The Romad RSP-100 lone-worker units issued to the company’s security guards are configured to receive automated hourly signals from alarm-receiving centre, EMCS. If a security guard does not acknowledge the signal, it is assumed that they are in a vulnerable situation, and an alarm is generated.

Romad RSP-100 lone-worker deviceThe lone-worker unit, which also has a rugged SOS alert button to summon help if and when required, incorporates high-sensitivity GPS and GSM communication. It is fully compliant with the British Standard 8484 Code of Practice, a key specification of which is that a person carrying a lone-worker protection device should be able to be located within 10 metres.

Six months on from investing in the devices, Oldham and his colleagues are very pleased with how the RSP-100 units have not only saved the company money but have also provided much improved protection for its security guards.

Said Oldham: “There are sound economic reasons for deploying RSP-100s, with a return on investment of just a few months. While freeing up a considerable amount of our controllers’ time, we also have the assurance that we know that our guards are where they are supposed to be, and we have peace of mind knowing that we can direct support to them if they are in danger.”
