Designed to measure electromagnetic field (EMF) strength, the SMP Portable EMF Monitoring System is available from Aspen Electronics. Manufactured by Wavecontrol, the system can measure EMF levels generated by any source within the frequency range of the probe attached to the system, says Aspen Electronics.

The unit is said to be suitable for monitoring fields generated by different sources, such as mobile telephone base stations, radio and television transmitters and repeaters, TETRA systems, and wireless LANS.

The firm says the SMP checks compliance with all recognised standards related to monitoring human exposure to time-varying electric, magnetic, and electromagnetic fields.
