Training for contractors and sub-contractors in the construction industry has been launched by E Learning Health and Safety (ELHS) to help them secure work in the education sector.
The Midland company say that building work at schools is often put out to tender in a rush after the funding is released but it demands high health and safety levels from all those employed on the project. It suggests that many contractors do not have retained staff and have little time to train those taken on for the project who are not up to speed with health and safety guidelines.
ELHS say their online training has been approved by RoSPA, and works via an email to the contractor who then ensures that when work starts all employees have been updated, and once completed the results and certificates are automatically stored for records and auditing purposes.
For those where internet access is a problem, the company says the courses can be downloaded and stored so that training can take place at more appropriate locations.
Catherine Blake, ELHS business development manager, said: “The courses have been successfully introduced to building services and facilities management companies. Attention to health and safety while construction work is going on at schools and colleges is paramount and our courses offer an easily accessible way of keeping employees on top of all the obstacles and dangers surrounding building work.”
