With the profession becoming increasingly about the importance of soft skills, but the need to gain technical competence too – what does each of these career development qualifications offer? Which is best for the type of career in health and safety you want to pursue? And are the current qualifications fit for purpose in a changing world?

Safety is Broken webinar

safety-is-brokenJohn Green, from Laing O’Rourke, has spent the last four years developing a new message for the industry: that “safety is broken” and needs to change, that safety needs to be done differently.

Kicking off 2016’s Barbour’s Webinar Series on the 12 February John presented his case for change, drawn on his time working internationally and collaboration with key industry influencers and leaders. The webinar covered:

  • How the industry is suffering from compliance overload and why people are not the problem;
  • Why zero harm is just an aspiration and success should not be measured on an absence;
  • Why safety management systems have become merely liability systems;
  • Why do we struggle with what goes right, why do we need to blame;
  • Using the “safety differently” model in the workplace.
