Safety champion urges trailblazers to enter EEF awards

UTC Aerospace Systems is urging companies that can demonstrate improvements in health and safety culture to enter the annual EEF/Aldermore Future Manufacturing Awards.

The reigning champions won the coveted health and safety accolade at the 2013 awards in January for an innovative wellness programme, which was featured in SHP’s May 2014 issue.

The Plymouth-based aerospace manufacturer, which employs 280 staff, beat off stiff competition from companies across the UK to win a panel of judges over with its commitment to implementing a range of initiatives to improve the safety and wellbeing of staff.

Richard Storey, executive director of the award’s sponsors RKH Insurance Services, said: “Manufacturers have a great story to tell. Our reigning champions – UTC Aerospace Systems – has had a great year and the icing on the cake would be to see them pass the crown on to another business that is also committed to improving their health and safety culture.”

Entries should be made before 3 October. To find out more about the awards, visit: www.eef.org.uk/awards
