Honours list recognises health and safety champions

 

The chief executive of the British Safety Council has offered his congratulations to all of the recipients of awards who have appeared in the New Year Honours list, in particular those who have made a significant contribution to keeping people safe and healthy at work.
 
Alex Botha welcomed the recognition of individuals who help keep people healthy and safe in the workplace. He said: “While health and safety has, unfairly, attracted unjust criticism in recent years, we must not forget that the sensible and proportionate management of workplaces helps keep us health and safe.
 
“Many people are alive and healthy today thanks to the contribution of Honours recipients and thousands of others who together play an important part in preventing injury and ill health in the workplace.”
 
Graham Jukes, chief executive of the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health has been awarded an OBE for services to environmental health. 
 
Pam Waldron, formerly HSE’s head of operations in Yorkshire and Humberside has been awarded an OBE for services to health and safety in the workplace.
 
Louise Brearey, head of the London 2012 games team at the HSE has been awarded an MBE for services to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and voluntary service to young people in sport.
 
Geoff Hooke, formerly chief executive of the British Safety Industry federation has been awarded a British Empire Medal for services to the safety clothing and equipment sector, and Paul Webster from the HSE for services to health and safety and voluntary service to young people and the community in London.
