City Link picks up safety award

City Link, a coventry-based express delivery company, has picked up the Safety Award at the Institute of Couriers (IOC) awards.

The award, held at the Institute of Directors in London, was presented to managing director of City Link Dave Smith and SHE manager Jon Hookings, by former transport minister and IOC vice president David Jamieson.

The IOC chose City Link as the winner after looking at the company’s accident records together with the health and safety management systems in place across City Link’s network of depots throughout the UK.

IOC said in a statement that City Link had “firmly established itself as the health and safety conscious courier employer after achieving its fifth Gold Award from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents”.

It continued: “City Link’s efforts to ensure the ongoing health and safety of employees in the depots and on the roads have helped the company match that magnificent achievement.”

City Link has just embarked on a new programme to tackle workplace safety representing a £180,000 investment.

Hookings said: “We are delighted to have been selected to win this year’s Safety Award by the IOC which is testament to the hard work of the team which work tirelessly to ensure that we keep up the high standards for which we are renowned.

“Health and safety is of paramount importance at City Link and consistent good practice forms an integral part of our work ethic which we aim to instil in each and every one of our employees, whether in the depots and offices or out on the roads, so it becomes second nature in their everyday work.”
