Research/reports- Major incident reports available free online
Out-of-print HSE reports on such disasters as the Grangemouth BP oil refinery (pictured) fires and explosion (1987), the explosion and fires at the Texaco refinery in Milford Haven (1994), and the Abbeystead explosion (1994) will be posted on www.icheme.org, with the service being officially launched at the Institution's Hazards XXI conference in Manchester in November.
Robin Turney, chair of IChemE's Loss Prevention Panel, said the reports contain information that remains pertinent to the modern day: "These papers will make authoritative information readily available to all. They are examples of high-quality, detailed investigations carried out by a professional organisation."
The Institution's director of policy, Andrew Furlong, added: "One of IChemE's key objectives in our safety work is to find mutually supportive ways of making SHE information available to a wider audience. The publication of these papers represents an important step in the right direction."
Hazards XXI takes place from 9 to 12 November and will be addressed by HSE chair, Judith Hackitt, who is a chartered chemical engineer.
