Concern over Met’s solo-patrol plans

01 April 2009

The Metropolitan Police Federation has raised fears over Met

Commissioner Sir Paul Stephenson's desire for police officers to walk

the beat on their own, rather than in pairs, in a bid to increase the

number of patrols.

The Federation pointed to figures obtained from UK police forces two years ago – by Tory MP Grant Shapps, under the Freedom of Information Act – which showed there were 70 assaults a day on police officers.

It also warned that lone officers could find themselves "disempowered" to become involved in confrontational situations.

some body is having a laugh policemen to patrol on there own thats abuse to a very capable man. the kids / under world of today are going to take advantige of this system if goes ahead. and the police on there own and response time to an already failing system is just going to be a laughing stock. the people who make these rules are not living alomg side us and the police officers who have to take on these daily duties.
