As part of its aim to make the regulatory system work better for business and help it save money the Local Better Regulation Office (LBRO) has signed memoranda of understanding with five major regulatory bodies.



The Health and Safety Executive, the Office of Fair Trading, the Environment Agency, the Food Standards Agency, and the Gambling Commission have all added their names to the documents, which underpin how the organisations work together.



The LBRO says the new agreements should help in delivering the necessary system changes to enable more professional enforcement, which will reduce burdens on businesses and the taxpayer, while protecting the public from unnecessary risks. 


Added chairman, Clive Grace: “We see these memoranda as more threads which pull together the regulatory system, making it tighter and better coordinated. By sharing our experience and intelligence we are working in a smarter way, which, in turn, will create efficiency savings in the system.”



Tim Smith, chief executive of the Food Standards Agency, said: “I welcome the MoU, which reflects a continuing commitment to deliver effective consumer protection while ensuring proportionate and consistent enforcement for businesses at a local level.”
