National CDM award entrants invited to House of Commons

APS national awardsNational CDM award entrants have been invited to an exclusive event at the House of Commons, to discuss sharing best practice and shaping the industry.

As part of APS’ ninth National CDM and Student Designer Awards programme, all shortlisted entries into this year’s competition will be invited to attend a networking event at the iconic landmark on the afternoon of Thursday 27 October, where they will have the opportunity to discuss how Parliament champions the Health and Safety and Risk Management industry in Westminster.

Commenting on the exclusive event, Richard Wilks, APS President, said: “This is an opportunity not to be missed – to not just network and share good practice, but to shape the future of our industry too.  I’d urge you, if you haven’t yet submitted your entry into the National CDM and Student Designer Awards to do so as soon as possible, before it’s too late.

The deadline for receiving completed entries is Tuesday 31 May at midnight and it is free of charge to take part.  Those interested in taking part in the competition are able to complete their entries online via the APS website.  Judging will take place over the summer months by an expert panel of industry figure-heads, including the Health and Safety Executive.  Following the judging process, the shortlist of successful entries will be announced in early September, and will receive their invite to the event at the House of Commons.

Mr Wilks continued: “The National CDM and Student Designer Awards are one of a kind.  Each and every one of the nine categories in the competition are dedicated to recognising the vital role construction Health and Safety plays within the industry – not perhaps through just one or two categories at other industry award ceremonies.

“In addition, no other awards programme in our sector – that we’re aware of – offers shortlisted entries the opportunity to network with each other and policy makers at the House of  Commons; giving people the opportunity to collaborate, raise standards, and set benchmarks of excellence to work towards, so that our industry is a healthier and safer place for all construction professionals to work.”

Categories within this year’s awards include Health and Safety, Project of the Year, Principal Designer of the Year, Client of the Year, Principal Contactor of the Year, BIM initiative Project, Consultancy of the Year, and Health and Safety Innovation.

Entrants can download the entry form from the APS website and are required to return completed submissions to Laura Hardie at APS by midnight 31 May 2016. The awards dinner will take place on Thursday 27 October at The Radisson Blu Portman Hotel, London.
