The Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) has announced today that Jan Chmiel, chief executive, will be leaving the organisation.

Cyril Barratt, chair of the board of trustees, said: “Jan has led the significant and successful strategic change programme agreed and supported by the Board since 2013 and leaves the organisation with a talented and ambitious senior Executive team to continue the good work he has started.”

Jan Chmiel said, “It’s been a real honour and a career highlight to have served the organisation and its people, sharing their vision of the world of work. That’s been in evidence as I have seen the competence and dedication of IOSH members in the workplace throughout the world – often under the most difficult of circumstances, the special contribution made by the volunteers who go the extra mile, and the staff of over 170 people at the Grange who share their passion and support them every step of the way.

“That collective energy and aspiration, positioning the OSH agenda as one of the key enablers of sustainable, responsible business will be reflected in the work that continues from here.”

Cyril Barratt said, “I am pleased that Jan has agreed to be available to assist with the transition process as we seek to find his replacement.”

Jan Chmiel joined IOSH in April 2013, taking over the role from Rob Strange who spent 12 years at the helm.
