Infographic: workplace bullying

WorkplaceBullies

by Hannah Williams

Workplace bullying is a peril to health and safety.

The unremitting harassment from bullies in an organisation can affect the work productivity, office culture and the health and safety of an employee.

Bullying can result in tremendously high levels of stress and can cause a whole range of anxiety and stress symptoms, both physically and emotionally.

Bullying can result in stress, bewilderment, confusion, embarrassment, guilt, low-self esteem and depression, as well as physical health problems including stomach pain, headaches, sleep deprivation, and joint pains, all of which can negatively affect an employee’s performance.

Employees subjected to bullying may not be able to deal with the problem themselves.

The employer should take immediate action if they suspect that bullying is taking place, because the longer the behaviour continues, the harder it becomes to repair the working relationship.
