Foundry fined for crush injury

A worker was seriously injured after being crushed when a barrow containing a 1.6tonne steel bar overturned at a foundry in Derbyshire.

The 61-year-old, who has asked not to be named, was working at Padley and Venables Ltd’s factory in Dronfield, when the incident took place on 12 April 2011. He was waiting for the nine-metre bar to be moved across the site so he could cut it. The bar was transported unsecured in a steel barrow, which was being shunted by a tow truck rather than a physical connection.€
