Safety and Health Expo is an event not to be missed this year

Simon, Toseland, Head of Health and Safety, Workplace Law, gives a visitor’s eye view of Safety and Health Expo, which takes place at London’s ExCeL in June.

You know when spring is in the air€ᆭ. flowers bloom, the birds sing and of course, the email reminders come flooding in prompting you to register for the annual Safety and Health Expo.

Exhibitors from safety footwear suppliers through to lifting aid manufacturers will once again be luring us towards their stands with offerings of free pens, sweets, stickers and of course those squidgy yellow ‘hard hats’ courtesy of the Association for Project Safety (APS) — I think I have four of those now!

For the past masters amongst us, there is something rather routine about it all — head straight to your favourite suppliers (you probably know exactly where they will be perched), meet up with a few friends and colleagues, maybe catch a couple of seminars, and then head home loaded with those essential CPD points, a few notable business cards and, of course, an armful of branded carrier bags.

Just as things were starting to get a bit too cosy though, the organisers, UBM, have unveiled a mammoth curveball. This year, the Expo will be held at the stunning ExCeL Exhibition Centre located in the heart of London’s Royal docks. This is to accommodate innovations from the international health and safety market, as well enabling them to run additional free educational seminars — the Expo this year boasts at being 25% bigger than any previous year!

It’s not just a venue change though. For the first time ever, the Expo will coincide with the IOSH Conference, which has a phenomenal programme of speakers, including Judith Hackitt, Chair of the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

The Coreskills+, a series of professional and technical workshops, will also run alongside the Expo where delegates will be able to create their own bespoke programme of sessions which fall into a number of categories: Occupational Health, Safety Management and Leadership Skills.

Within the Expo itself a catwalk area will be set up enabling exhibitors to demonstrate the latest innovations in Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). It promises to be a truly interactive and fun addition, and something I am personally really looking forward to.

Approximately 15,000 delegates are expected to attend across the three days (17-19 June), and Workplace Law are proud to be exclusively supporting.

Entry to the Expo is completely free and passes can be downloaded here.
