Hearing screening from Arco

A hearing screening kiosk has been developed by safety company Arco, together with CluisTROM Ltd, with the aim of helping businesses to identify and prevent employee hearing loss.

Arco hearingAccording to Arco, hearing damage caused by exposure to workplace noise is more common than people think, with research estimating that over 2 million people are exposed to noise levels at work that may be harmful. And industrial hearing loss accounts for about 75 per cent of all occupational disease claims, adds the company.

Arco’s Hearing Check Kiosk comprises of a stand, software, touch screen tablet and headset; and the entire hearing surveillance package allows for comprehensive hearing tests to be undertaken by employees on site, says the company.

Arco say that the screening lasts between 10-15 minutes, monitoring for tonal hearing loss by playing sounds at different frequencies to each ear. With frequencies tested ranging from 250, 500, 1000, 4000 and 6000 Hz, the results are immediate and are illustrated by an in-depth audiogram identifying an employees hearing thresholds, explains the company. The full results are then securely stored on file and can be sent direct to two separate email addresses, says the company, adding that should hearing loss be detected, a referral can also be made for the employee to have full screening by CluisTROM audiologists.
