Crossrail’s considerate contractors triumph at national site awards

Crossrail, Europe’s largest infrastructure project, has achieved an impressive 24 wins at the 2015 Considerate Constructors Scheme National Awards.

Crossrail worksites are situated in the heart of some of London’s busiest communities. These national awards are given to recognise sites registered with the scheme that have raised the bar for considerate construction and improving the industry’s image.

Entries are judged on the measures a site has put in place to be considerate towards local neighbourhoods and the public, the workforce, and the environment.

Chris Sexton, Technical Director, Crossrail said: “Infrastructure projects on the scale and complexity of Crossrail can only be delivered with the support of local communities around individual construction sites and along the route. This is a tremendous achievement for Crossrail and our partner contactors who have worked hard to raise construction industry standards.  The Considerate Constructors Awards recognise not only the measures we’ve put in place but those of everyone working on Crossrail. Congratulations to all the Crossrail winners.”

Cllr Richard Beddoe, Westminster City Council cabinet member for city management, said: “Crossrail is a huge engineering project that has been conducted just metres under the feet of millions of Londoners who live, work and visit Westminster. It is credit to them, and a credit to the adaptability of Londoners, that disruption has been kept to a minimum.

“Crossrail will bring enormous benefits to London once construction is complete, and Westminster is busy making sure our pavements and streets are ready to accept millions more people into central London. Westminster has a great working relationship with the Crossrail team, as they solve issues quickly and work closely with us to inform our residents and businesses on what is going on and when.”
