Calling all SHP contributors

home-office-336378_1280In response to queries from readers about opportunities to contribute features and shorter articles to SHP (magazine and online), the editorial team would like to provide some guidance on our submission requirements. We would also like to take this opportunity to invite new and long-standing contributors to submit proposals if they have any interesting content ideas that they would like to share.

As a first step for both magazine and online content, SHP recommends that contributors submit a synopsis that provides a summary of what the article will be about and bullet-points of the key areas to be covered. Although we won’t refuse to publish unsolicited articles outright, we are less likely to use any articles that require considerable editing, especially if this is to reduce excessive length.

We need to be confident that the potential contributor has a clear idea about why they are writing the article, can explain what value it brings to an ongoing discussion and the wider membership, and can outline how they intend to guide the reader through to a logical conclusion.

For SHP Online content, we would also advise potential contributors to go to the website’s search function and type in the subject they would like to write about. This will enable the writer to see what articles we have covered in the last month. We are particularly interested in content that builds on existing debates or explores issues that have not been covered.

Please contact the editor if you would like any further information about submissions. Email: [email protected]
